UIA Schools Named Most Innovative By US News & World Report

Arizona State University, Georgia State University, University of Central Florida, and Purdue University acknowledged for new approaches that support student success
PORTLAND, OR, September 9, 2015–U.S. News & World Report announced, today, that four University Innovation Alliance member institutions have been named among the nation’s most innovative institutions: Arizona State University (#1), Georgia State University (#5), University of Central Florida (#13), and Purdue University (#21).
For the first time ever, U.S. News & World Report is recognizing institutions that are trying new approaches to improving success for both students and faculty. These new rankings comes at a time when higher education institutions across the country are looking for new, effective ways to ensure that students, regardless of background, can successfully complete college.

“We are thrilled that members of the University Innovation Alliance are being recognized for their ambitious and innovative efforts to improve student success,” said Bridget Burns, UIA Executive Director. “Unlike other rankings, the Most Innovative Schools list measures what really matters to students: effective approaches and supports that make it possible for them to get their degree, and succeed beyond college.”

The four UIA schools are joined by the likes of Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and Duke University.
Launched just one year ago, the UIA is a consortium of 11 public research universities that have committed to work together in cross-functional teams to test and scale effective innovations across their campuses in order to graduate 68,000 additional graduates over the next decade.

“We are seeing significant innovation on all our campuses, especially as a result of our collaborative work. This recognition of four UIA schools helps shine a light on the important practices being adopted and adapted across the UIA,” said Burns.
In its inaugural year, UIA members have launched new projects to leverage data analytics and academic advising to identify struggling students earlier on in their academic career, and put them on a path to success. This new project scales the success seen at Georgia State University, Arizona State University and the University of Texas at Austin—reflecting the UIA’s mission to build a collaborative model that helps institutions share and scale what works.

The 11 members of the Alliance include: Arizona State University Ohio State University Georgia State University University of California, Riverside Iowa State University University of Central Florida Michigan State University University of Kansas Oregon State University University of Texas at Austin Purdue University
